Far Cry 7: separate development reports from a release announcement

What the development report actually establishes

PC Gamer’s February 20, 2026 report quotes Ubisoft’s chief executive discussing two Far Cry projects in development. That statement is not, by itself, a dated launch announcement for a product called Far Cry 7.

Our earlier wording went beyond that distinction. It described a numbered entry as officially confirmed and speculated about platforms, technology and features without supplying evidence for those details. This correction withdraws those unsupported assurances. It does not claim that a project has been cancelled or that another announcement cannot follow.

Use an announcement checklist, not a rumour checklist

1. Look for the exact product title on the publisher’s own page. A franchise roadmap and a particular game are not the same thing.
2. Separate a development statement, a reveal, a release window and a calendar date. Each answers a different question.
3. Find the explicit platform list. A previous Far Cry game’s platforms do not establish the next game’s versions.
4. For buying decisions, require the edition, included content and activation conditions on the actual offer.

A concrete example: a discussion of new Far Cry projects does not tell a PC player which launcher a future code would use. It also does not establish a console upgrade entitlement or the contents of a premium edition. Treat those as unanswered purchase questions until an exact listing resolves them.

Existing games are separate purchases

You can compare the current Far Cry 3 offer and Far Cry 4 offer on their own merits. Neither is presented here as access to a future sequel. Read the platform, delivery format and region of each listing rather than applying a general claim about the franchise.

There is no need to make a rushed purchase because a headline contains a year. Wait for the information that determines whether you can use the exact product and whether its contents meet your needs.
