About this game

A search for your family

In Demented, you wake as Bennet Helms in an unfamiliar place and find your family, though you remember almost nothing. Choose whether to run or search for them. Survive, seek clues and items, hide, and uncover the truth behind the Visual Corporation.

Sanity changes what you face

Sanity affects hallucinations, vision, movement and the appearance of critters that can hunt and hurt you. Its effects shift at different levels: at 45%, critters begin to spawn; at 25%, walking and sprinting slow; at 15%, sprinting is disabled; at 10%, the image turns black and white. At 5%, you move very fast, can see distant objects and ignore critter pain effects, though you still take damage. Medication can contain the brain tumor described in the story.

A shifting world and radiation

WCD responds to your health and sanity, changing the world and your perception, spawning critters and adding corruption. System Shutdown can also change power in the facility. Radiation may slow or stop sanity loss, but can also reduce health. At 40+ REMs, image blurring and noises may occur; at 85+ REMs, movement becomes a lot slower, reflexes worsen and hearing decreases.
