About this game

Combat platforming in a shifting system

Exception is a combat platformer set inside a computer system seized by a totalitarian virus. Combine quick reflexes with elaborate attacks as a lone member of the system leads the resistance. Its two-dimensional action unfolds in a three-dimensional world: levels transform to reveal new challenges, routes and areas to explore, with each level built around a puzzle that develops as you progress. This offer is an activation key for Steam and carries the Region Free label.

Attacks, upgrades and a story in motion

String together special attacks and collect hidden artifacts to buy attack upgrades. Chaining airborne attacks earns time bonuses, while finding fast routes and choosing aggressive or pacifist approaches can help you pursue different leaderboard times. The story is presented across 17 illustrated cutscenes and follows four misfit software threads working to overthrow the virus and restore freedom. The soundtrack features nearly two hours of Synthwave tracks, including music by Kalax and Waveshaper.

Compete for leaderboard times

Compare times across more than 800 Steam leaderboards. You can aim for the best combat time by defeating every enemy, or try for a pacifist time by leaving enemies unharmed.
