Switch games on Switch 2: compatibility, upgrades and storage

Switch 2 can play compatible physical and digital Switch games, but some titles have limitations. A free update, a paid upgrade pack and a complete Switch 2 game are different things. Identify the game and entitlement you already own before comparing another offer.

Write down the edition and format

Record the complete title, edition, owning account and format: digital download, game card or game-key card. Keep only nonsensitive details from your library or packaging. The word Switch in an advertisement is not enough to establish the required console. A cheaper offer may be an add-on rather than a complete game, so compare contents before prices.

Check compatibility before paying

1. Find the exact title on Nintendo’s official site and inspect its Switch 2 compatibility information.
