An installed game is not necessarily a separately purchased game. Monthly PS Plus titles can become unavailable when the subscription ends, while catalogue games can leave even during an active subscription. Identify the entitlement before renewing or buying the title again.
Identify how the game was acquired
A separate Store purchase differs from a claimed monthly game, which differs again from catalogue access. Buying with a PS Plus discount does not turn that purchase into a rental. A separately purchased add-on still needs its base game. Find the transaction or original entitlement instead of relying on the installation icon.
Diagnose a padlock on PS5
- Check that the signed-in account owns the purchase or subscription. Do not delete the account or try a country change.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Subscriptions > PlayStation Plus. Check the plan and end date.
- Find the game in your library and identify purchase, claimed monthly title or catalogue access. Compare the PS4 and PS5 editions.
- With an active subscription, verify that the title remains in the relevant catalogue and check PlayStation service status.
- For a valid entitlement that is not recognised, try Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses, then test again.
- If it remains locked, retain the exact title, edition, error and transaction reference for support before paying twice.
What cancellation and expiry actually change
Cancellation affects renewal under the account terms; benefits remain until the paid period ends. After expiry, monthly games and other subscription benefits become unavailable. Resubscribing can restore access to previously claimed monthly games, but not necessarily a title removed from the catalogue. Separate purchases, including discounted ones, retain their own purchase entitlement.
Why renewal may not fix the padlock
- The title left the catalogue.
- You own an add-on but no longer have access to its base game.
- You selected another edition or account.
- A temporary service or network problem prevents entitlement verification. A new code is not a network repair.
Protect progress before changing files
Distinguish installed game files from saved progress. Restoring licences cannot create a missing purchase and is not a backup. Do not reset the console or delete saved data for a simple padlock. If you use PS Plus online storage, check your situation and current conditions before allowing the subscription to expire.
Claim a monthly game while it is offered
- On PS5, open PlayStation Plus from Games home, then Benefits and Monthly Games.
- Select the title and add it to the library during its offer period.
- Verify the title on the correct account. Claiming it does not require installing every file immediately.
Choose the purchase that solves the problem
For claimed monthly games and plan benefits, compare an eligible renewal. For one title that left the catalogue, compare a separate purchase instead. For DLC, verify the base game and region first. PSN credit and a subscription are different products: inspect the listing and account country before buying from Tunisia.
Compare PlayStation offers after diagnosis and read the PSN compatibility guides before redeeming a code.
Frequently asked questions
Does an installed game stay playable after expiry?
That depends on its purchase, monthly-game or catalogue entitlement. Installation alone is not enough.
Does Restore Licenses grant a missing game?
No. It cannot create a purchase or subscription right.
Does renewal restore every catalogue game?
No. A removed title can require a separate purchase.
